Christ's Family Does Our Father's Will

Nov 9, 2025    Sam Vendt

Main Idea: Jesus' true adopted family are those who do His Father's will.

1. Jesus' biological family stands outside to stop him teaching (v.46; Mark 3:21)

2. Jesus' disciples sit with Him inside to follow him and his teaching. (vv. 48-49)

3. Jesus identifies his true family with those who follow him, which is doing the Will of the Father (vv. 49-50)

Doing the Father's will means...

a. You must take up your cross and follow Jesus

b. You must listen to the Father's Son and do what he says.

Questions for prayer, meditation, discussion, and application:

- Where do you see tendencies in your own life to "stand outside" and ask Jesus to fit into plans instead of sitting inside and following His?

- How does belonging to God's family challenge the way you think about your earthly family--especially where loyalty to Jesus might cause relational tension?

- Hoe can we help each other not only hear Jesus' words but DO them?
