The Way of the Cross
Main Idea: In a world where every heart has set itself against God, the only path to true life is dying to self - the way of the cross
I. Jesus' coming has divided humanity. (34-36)
II. Jesus demands first place in your affections. (37)
III. Jesus promises true life to those who die to themselves for him. (38-39)
Questions to consider:
- In what ways have you experienced division - weather in your family, friendships, or workplace - because of your faith in christ? How do you typically respond when relationships are strained due to your allegiance to Jesus?
- Are there places where you're still seeking meaning, approval, or purpose apart from Christ? what would it look like to surrender those to him?
- What does dying to self mean in your daily routines, habits, or relationships? in what ways do you tend to resist the daily discipline of self-denial and cross-bearing? What self-serving, self-loving attitudes and actions in you need to be sacrificed?
